Having recently reviewed our schools e-safety, I thought it may be a good idea to bring to your attention the method for ensuring your children use internet search engines as safely as possible when not in school.
In school we have filters to ensure we use ‘safe search’ as a means of blocking text and images that may not be suitable for children. To protect your children at home you can very easily turn on your search engines ‘safe search’.
In Google this can be found on the search page under your tools button or on the bottom of the page – look for ‘Settings’ followed by ‘Search Settings’. By clicking on this Search Settings tab, you can then click the box under Safe Search Filters. Locking SafeSearch ensures you are offering protection whenever your computer is used.
More information can be found on https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk as this site caters for all age ranges, as well as having a parents section and is also the site used by Edith Cavell. This website also has the advantage of having a link to which offers advice if you have any worries regarding your child and using the internet safely.
I hope you find this information helpful if you were not already using the online safe search.
Bedfordshire police have issued guidance for parents and guardians, regarding online safety, which can be found below:
